BECOMING a grandmother was always going to be a dramatic lifestyle change, but for one local woman, it was the impetus to embrace a healthy lifestyle and shed more than 30 kg.
Tamworth woman Tarnia Hall said the birth of her first grandchild was life-changing in more ways than one.
“Basically, I was 100 kg-plus,” she said.
“The inspiration was the baby, and there were more babies coming.”
“I just had to do it for myself.”
She has lost 35.4 kg to date, equating to 215 cm over the past 12 months.
“I haven’t reached my personal goal, but losing this much is an achievement in itself,” she said.
The astounding effort has seen her become one of the top six contenders for the The Natural Way Clinic Slimmer winner.
She now is the proud grandmother of three children and she relishes the extra strength and energy she has to play with and care for them.
“I can feel a difference,” she said.
“It’s about having the energy to get up in the middle of the night and having the energy during the day while you have them.”
“I didn’t like the thought or the look of the ‘fat grandmother’.
“My children are very proud of me. They give me encouragement and a few tips as well.”
She said, though it was daunting at first to learn about carbohydrates and proteins, she had found it was simple to go back to nutritional basics.
She said the supportive staff at The Natural Way weight loss clinic in Tamworth and weekly check ups had been a font of motivation for her to keep the weight off.
She said one of the keys to consistent weight loss is to be prepared with meal preparation, especially when away from home.
“I hope someone can find some inspiration from it. You can do it - whether it be 5 kg or 35 kg.”
