About 6.50pm, a 20-year-old man delivered a pizza order to a home on Woodstock Street when the occupants advised they had not placed an order.
As the delivery driver was leaving, he was allegedly tackled to the ground from behind by a man armed with a knife.
When the 20-year-old attempted to run away, the man allegedly chased after him and tackled him to the roadway, demanding money.
The driver gave him cash before he ran away.
Tamworth police attended Woodstock Street and established a crime scene.
The driver sustained grazing to his elbow, knee, and back, but did not require medical treatment.
Officers would now like to speak to a man who they believe may be able to assist with inquiries.
He has been described to police as being approximately 152cm tall, aged about 17 years old, and last seen wearing dark-coloured clothing.
