The son of Snippetson, who is also nominated for a 2050m handicap at Gunnedah on Sunday, surged to victory in the Marquee Stud Class 1 and Maiden Plate (1600m) at Quirindi.
“He finally got there,” relieved trainer Luke Griffith said.
“He just keeps on improving. Greg (Ryan) rode him off the speed today and he got to the line well.”
Winning Snip was having his 14th race start and coming off a couple of thirds following his maiden win at Dubbo back at the end of March.
He was also the middle leg of a treble for Dubbo jockey Greg Ryan.
Ryan had won aboard the Pat Farrell-trained Srinika in the race preceding Winning Snip and then made it a running treble when he sooled the Todd Howlett-trained Binesi to a win in the Willow Tree Gravel Class 2 Handicap (1000m).
Binesi finished strongly in the middle of the track, besting odds-on favourite It’s A Saga by three quarters of a length in a quick 57.19secs.
Leon Davies’ Magic Lass had led and put pace in the race immediately before running out of puff 200m from home.
“She took the pull out of him when they ran along like that,” Ryan said of Binesi.
“He wanted to hang a little too. I had to drag him around the corner,” he told Howlett who has had the son of Dane Shadow for all 18 starts.
“He always been thereabouts,” Howlett said.
“I took the blinkers off him for the first time today too.
“Robert said he wanted to go too hard last time.”
