Usually run every two years, last year’s was such a success they are now having the event every year to encourage new students to enrol, conservatorium program manager Noelene McGrane said.
This year, due to popular demand, a rock room upstairs with drum kit, electric guitars and bass guitar will be provided.
The day goes from 10.30am-1.30pm in the heritage-listed former Dominican Convent in Marius St.
The ground floor will feature woodwind and brass instruments, plus ukuleles, while the first floor will be the piano/keyboard room, with the top floor dedicated to strings, including double bass, cello and violin. An early childhood music demonstration for children aged 15 months to kindergarten age is on at 11.30am.
Singing teacher Johan Bester will let people observe him teaching students between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Soloists will play in the chapel next door all day and there will be a sausage sizzle.
