POLICE will prepare a report for the coroner after a man died when his car ran off the road and ploughed into a tree near Gunnedah on Saturday night.

The 37-year-old was driving a Ford utility on the Coonabarabran Rd at Caroona between 6pm and 6.30pm when the incident occurred.
Passing motorists spotted the wreckage and immediately alerted emergency services, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the man is yet to be formally identified, he is understood to have been from the small village of Walhallow west of Quirindi.
Police from the Oxley Local Area Command are continuing their investigations into the crash.
Meanwhile, a mother and son are lucky to be alive after the car they were in collided with a heavy vehicle near Guyra on Friday night.
The pair, from Bellingen near Coffs Habour, was travelling on Ebor Rd about 7.35pm when the woman failed to stop at an
intersection.
The white Volkswagen ploughed into a semi-trailer going south along the New England Highway.
The 54-year-old woman was taken to Armidale Hospital for treatment, while the 14-year-old boy was air-lifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital.
He was treated for a fractured shoulder, broken rib, bruising on his lungs and a large laceration to his head.
Both patients remain in hospital in a stable condition. The truck driver was uninjured in the crash.
Also, a P-plater has been ordered off the road six months and fined $2200 after being clocked driving at 157km near Werris Creek.
Officers from the Oxley Highway Patrol stopped the P2 driver on Friday after the car was detected to be travelling well in excess of the sign-posted limit.
