The guns were stolen during a 90-minute period last weekend from a Jeffery St house before police recovered one of the firearms nearby.
Police are searching for a .22 calibre Winchester, .22 calibre Bruno and a .177 calibre Norinco rifle, which were taken along with a 12- gauge Miroku shotgun and a 12-gauge Browning shotgun during the break-in.
Police have been told the firearms were stolen between 11.30pm on January 24 and 1am the next day.
When the firearms were discovered missing, police were called to the scene.
Officers conducted a scientific examination of the home and canvassed nearby residents, and shortly after they were able to recover the sixth stolen firearm.
Detectives have launched an investigation into the break-in and urge any witnesses to come forward with information.
Anyone who may have details on the identity of the offenders, or who has knowledge of the whereabouts of the stolen guns, should contact Armidale police or Crime Stoppers.
