Mrs Daley started at the Belmore St business, the last drycleaners left in Tamworth, on her 33rd birthday and for the past two-and-a-half decades has been one of the smiling faces to greet customers when they come in the door.
She said the job had come at just the right time, when she was looking for a change from collecting eggs for Baiada at their Tangaratta chicken farm.
“I was sick of the roosters chasing me,” Mrs Daley laughed.
She knew Central Drycleaners owner Ross Lobsey and was getting fuel from him one day – at the time the drycleaners was up on the corner with a service station adjoining it – when she asked him if he had any jobs going.
“He rang me three weeks later – and I got away from the roosters.”
Mrs Daley said she loved the customers and her workmates.
“Ross and (wife) Judy have been very good to me, too, and I like the hours,” she said.
Mr Lobsey said Mrs Daley was everything you looked for in an employee.
“She’s very loyal, reliable, honest and extremely conscientious as far as the customers go,” he said.
“They’re always saying to me, ‘Gee, you’ve got wonderful ladies working for you’, and that’s all you could ask for.”
Central Drycleaners was started by Mr Lobsey’s father, at least 65 years ago, and between Mr Lobsey and his six staff there’s more than 130 years of drycleaning experience.
