In the Radio 2MO Gunnedah Stakes the Mark Craig-owned and trained Typhoon Coulter registered his sixth win in 17 races.
The evens favourite burst out of box three and never looked back to win in 19.36 seconds.
The black dog streaked away and was able to just hold on by a nose to the fast finishing Nanna’s Boy.
Lissino Waters was almost two lengths behind in third.
The trainer said even though his dog has run quicker before he was still happy with that run.
“Some people thought he wasn’t as quick as his previous time, but this backs that time up,” Craig said.
The black dog recently finished third at Wentworth Park over the 280m, although will stay in country races for a while.
“We will keep taking grades in the country for a while,” Craig said.
“The grade system really helps a dog like this improve.”
“I am not sure where he will go next.”
“Just got to keep putting him in races he can win.”
Only twice in 18 starts has Typhoon Coulter finished outside the first three.
In the next race Russell Harland’s Will Be Puzzled ran a similar race for owner Elizabeth Brown in the Namoi Valley Independent Stakes.
The black bitch screamed out of box four to lead all the way in the 5th Grade 440m event.
She was great value for the punters at 6-1.
Her second win came in a time of 24.90 seconds, and beat second-placed Sportsman’s Kev by over seven lengths.
Courtesy Bullet was third.
“It was a very good run,” Russell Harland said.
“He was leading and got run down last week so he owed me one.”
The trainer said he has recently been working on him coming out of the box and it has paid off.
“She used to walk out, but today she came out beautifully.”
“She galloped well today and she will keep improving.”
Harland will run him again at Tamworth on Wednesday.
