Last year – on home turf – the Tamworth A’s prevailed 3-2 against Illawarra to claim the Division 1 title.
Three of that successful side – Calvin Farmilo, Matt Scott and Alex Taggart – will back up again this weekend.
So too will coach Andrew Farmilo. He’ll be assisted by son Isaac with Ian Scott managing.
“We’re looking all right,” (Andrew) Farmilo said.
“We’ve got a few guys who haven’t played before.”
He’ll be looking to the three from last year to lead the way along with Mitch Lewin and Hamish McAdam.
They and (Calvin) Farmilo played with the 15Bs at the 15s titles on the weekend.
“It’s a matter of getting the structure right,” Farmilo said.
“It’s (indoor) a little bit different but if you can play hockey you can adapt.”
They’ve got Central Coast Juniors, Illawarra (2), Macarthur (1) and Grafton in their pool.
It’s a pretty good draw, Farmilo said.
Tamworth will have two sides competing, with a second side playing in Division 2.
Hayden Lewin is looking after them.
Lewin coached the 15A boys to Tamworth’s first state championship in that age group on the weekend but isn’t going down expectations too high.
Most of the side are new to indoor.
“They are young and inexperienced,” he said.
“We’re going down for a real learning experience.”
Only Harry Reynolds was part of the 13s side last year.
“The rest are pretty green,” Lewin said.
“It’ll be interesting to see how they go.”
They have been training well and have started to gel.
They’re in Pool B, with New England, Sydney (2), Grafton (2) and Macarthur (3).
The boys’ section of the championships gets underway toomorrow with the girls starting Saturday and finishing a day later.
