Founding members Ron and Margaret Main did the honour of cutting the ribbons on the new access ramp, disabled toilet and renovated kitchen.
The works cost $35,000 and were funded by a Community Building Partnership grant from the state government, and members’ fundraising.
But it was the hard work of members – who volunteered many hours of their time and effort to the project – that helped the upgrades come to fruition.
Commodore Ken Donaldson said the project improved access for elderly members and those with a disability, and improved the kitchen to make it more functional.
About 50 members, past and present, attended yesterday’s event.
Winners from the most recent sailing season were also awarded their trophies at a presentation ceremony, with Rob Cole of Gunnedah named overall club champion.
The Lake Keepit Sailing Club was formed in 1959. The clubhouse was built six years later.
It now has about 60 members.
Mr Donaldson says the club was always keen for more members.
