The association was named the 2012 New England Good Sports Club of the Year at the recent Good Sports awards.
Yesterday it received its certificate and a $250 bonus courtesy of Newcastle Permanent.
It’s perfect timing with the winter season just around the corner.
The Saturday competition will get underway on May 4 with some noticeable changes.
Most obvious will be the new blue courts.
Twelve of the 18 outside courts have been resurfaced.
The new surface has a layer underneath to help with “cushioning”.
The association has also erected lighting over more courts and improved the lighting over the two courts already lit through government grants.
The sport has been one of the leaders in terms of the Good Sports program and was the second club in the Tamworth area to get to Level 3 – the highest level clubs can attain.
It follows Tamworth Magpies, West Lions and North Tamworth Bears as the New England’s best and beat more than 190 clubs to win the award.
The awards aim to celebrate Good Sports clubs who have gone above and beyond in promoting the values of the program, which Tamworth Netball has done.
As well as limiting exposure to alcohol and providing healthy food options, it’s also discouraged the sale of energy drinks, and secretary Lyn O’Brien said they’re very grateful to the Sports Dome cafe for not having them for sale.
All the rep coaches and managers are also being trained in nutrition and exercising responsibly.
