The barefoot bowls game replaced the annual cricket match face-off between musicians and the mayor’s mates as part of the festival each year.
Yesterday’s event was a fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Foundation and according to participants a great way to have some fun.
Bushwhacker Dobe Newton led the way in one of his infamous brightly coloured suits, encouraging his team mates, including Tamara Stewart, Doug Bruce and Mark O’Shea.
He was also responsible for actually teaching the team, and others, the fine art of getting the bowl to the end of the green.
The mayor’s team which included council’s general manager Paul Bennett, director of regional services Peter Resch and councillors Russell Webb and Tim Coates appeared to have a tad more experience than the musicians.
There was plenty of witty banter to be heard on the green, accompanied by a lot of laughter.
By the end of the game a couple of hours later some of the bowls were even getting close to the jack.
Cr Murray said he believed due to the success of the event it would become an annual one.
“We would really like to be able to come back again next year, everyone had great fun,” he said.
At the end of the day the result on the green was called a draw.
