The Tamworth Little Athletics Club held its annual gala day at the Regional Athletics Complex and it not only gave kids from around the region a chance to show what they can do in track and field but it was also a charitable exercise.
The club used the day to raise some cash for the McGrath Foundation and a lot of competitors, parents and officials got into the spirit by wearing pink clothes or dabbing on some pink paint or zinc.
Unfortunately, rain around the region on Saturday and Sunday morning kept a few people away but the sun shone once the first events got underway and those who did make the trip were rewarded with some good results.
Five records were broken, four of which went to Julia Scott.
She set new marks in the under 17 girls’ long jump (4.95m), 100m hurdles (17.98 seconds), high jump (1.53m) and shot put (9.39m).
The other record went to fellow Tamworth member Ella Heeney, who beat the old 13 years girls’ 800m mark by 10 seconds when she won in 2:26.07.
All placegetters received medals and some also picked up extra trophies in some events.
The keenest of the youngsters also used the day to help prepare for the New England zone carnival, which will be held in Gunnedah next month.
