ARMIDALE junior cycling star Sam Jenner headed down to Tamworth to good effect on Sunday, winning the Tamworth Cycling Club’s A Grade Criterium at Goddard’s Lane.

Jenner, who won an Australian Under 16 All Schools cycling title this year, defeated Kierin Lewis and Phil Kelaher in a small A Grade race over 35 minutes and two laps.
A nominee in the in the Armidale Junior Sports Star of the Year, Jenner was too strong in the small field on a day where the TCC had 34 riders in four grades.
Darren Traill, fresh from completing his first Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic, won the B Grade criterium over 30mins and two laps from Charlie Coulton and Alan Spokes.
C Grade winner was Brendon Hallford.
He notched his second criterium win when successful over the 25mins and two laps from Jay Clissold and John Saunders.
“It was a good race,” Hallford said.
“Pretty tough. That’s my second win, so I’ve been going well.”
He’s loving the racing and trains through the week to make sure he’s up on the pace.He won his C Grade race in a sprint finish by about half a length from Jay Clissold.
The D Grade race, 20mins plus two laps, was won by Michael Jackson from Josh Nash and Nick Reid.
Next week’s TCC criterium series continues at Goddard’s Lane from 8am. Entry is open to all.
