"In Tamworth, he was this really big deal, he was always on the radio and that's who I learned a lot from.
"Just hours of listening and putting that into my guitar playing."
Bailey and his mum, both diehard Urban fans, have often found themselves couch surfing, and trying to secure a stable living situation.
Bailey and his mother couldn't afford tickets to see Urban at a Tamworth concert in 2019.
"Growing up, we never really had a lot of money, so we've really got to think about what we spend it on," he said.
Following Bailey's performance, Urban jumped on stage with him to reperform the song together.
"To be able to say that I have performed on stage with Keith Urban is just so incredible," Bailey said.
The Voice judge Jessica Mauboy joined Urban in vying to have Bailey join her team, and judges Guy Sebastian and Rita Ora said they knew they wouldn't stand a chance against Urban.
Bailey thanked Mauboy but of course, chose to join his idol's team.
Bailey is hoping to get better at his craft with Urban as his mentor, but he doesn't know exactly what to expect from his time to come on the show.
"Just the fact that I've gotten to where I have already is just so unreal," he said.
