Police officers patrolling for property crime in South Tamworth attempted to pull over a silver Holden Barina about 11am on Wednesday when the driver allegedly failed to stop.
Oxley Detective Inspector Jason Darcy slammed the person behind the wheel as "very reckless" after the pursuit broke out in Thompson Crescent and continued through the area for more than 10 minutes.
The alleged car chase came to a sudden stop when the silver Barina crashed.
"The vehicle has driven down Petra Avenue into a car park of a block of flats and has gone through the front fence of one of the residences there," Detective Inspector Darcy told the Leader.
