The numbers were reduced for round six of of the twilight series as Christmas, end of school term activities and the very ominous BoM data took its toll on all but the ferociously diligent riders.
Race coordinators Ross Aylwin and Michael Crummy were up for a laugh and decided to really mess with riders' heads in the last "proper" race for the season - a race track that was back to front.
And what a treat it was. Who would have thought there were so many downhill runs and cruel pinches in the park?
Every uphill climb was met with newfound respect as riders learnt a few new lessons on what the tough, rocky and hilly trails can deliver.
In the spirt of keeping everyone on their toes this week's race report is a new format, see if you can keep up.
So first up a big kudos to the chilled rec riders including Elesa Crowley and Zac Bradford.
Our huge C grade category was taken out in reverse by Kaden Mcintosh with 21.33 on track, second from the "front" was Shannon Sipple with a massive 53:31 effort and Jeff Benson with a 47:21 effort.
The field of B graders was "fronted" by Mark Follington with 49:37 min, Glen Bramley in second with 55:59 of grunt on track and Jock Barwick at over one hour. Matthew Burgess put some hard yards in to come last/first in 53:06 and three laps.
A and Elite grade had the pleasure of heading straight up Central Mountain via the usual descending trails.
It was a brain twisting moment heading up the usual fast descending flow of Secret Valley and Skyline.
After ascending to the very top of the Mountain Bike Park A and Elite riders were thrown straight back down the mountain.
So our A grade women was taken out by Alyssa Rogan in 1:07 and Laurie Willis smashed the same two laps in 50:32. For the lads, Ross Alywin came in "last" in 1:03 with Lachie Marsh completing his race in 48:20, Terry Worboys in 45:28 and Stuart Mills in 45:26.
The elite field was a slightly cruisy gang having just competed at the Rocky Trail Entertainment 24 hour mtb race in Rydall over the weekend.
Crummy took out our reverse line honours in 51:18, Nathan Watson made a comeback with 43:59 and Lachie Butters was taking a stroll in the park after his team effort on the weekend with a chatty 48:20. Congrats to Eddie Willis who came in on three laps at 46:48.
The upside down race was the last of the twilight series with Christmas party shenanigans coming this week.
Riders are encouraged to spruce up their rides with a little Christmas cheers for the fun last ride of 2021.
Rego online and turn up time from 5.30pm-5:45pm.
