IT was a wild and woolly evening for Tamworth residents on Wednesday as a severe thunderstorm swept through the region, closing numerous roads.

Tamworth SES said while the damage was minimal, crews were kept busy throughout the night, removing fallen trees at Daruka Road, Gunnedah Road, and The New England Highway at Bendemeer.
On Thursday morning in Tamworth, Back Woolbrook Road, Burgmans Lane, Daruka Road, Davidsons Lane, Gowrie Road, Kelso Lane, Warral Road Duck Under and Whitehouse Lane were closed.
In Manilla, Bugendore Spur Road and Len Barra Road is closed, while in Barraba, access to William Street is also blocked.
At Tamworth Airport, 18.4 mm was recorded yesterday according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), while 19.4 mm was recorded at Barraba, and 24.4 at Manilla.
Tintinhull local Shantel Campbell said the storm hit her property on the New England Highway hard.
"The wind has lifted tiles up on the house roof and all the water has come through the roof," she told the Leader.
"The SES are coming today to tarp up the house roof."
The BOM issued a flood warning for the Peel and Namoi Rivers on Thursday, with renewed river level rises likely.
"Minor flooding is likely along the Peel River at Tamworth, with a minor flood peak on Thursday afternoon," the BOM said.

Along the Namoi River, moderate flooding is occurring at Bugilbone and Goangra, and major flooding is expected at Goangra Thursday.
The Namoi River at Bugilbone is currently at 6.01 metres and falling, with moderate flooding.
The Namoi River at Goangra is expected to peak near 7.80 metres Thursday afternoon, with major flooding.
There is a high chance of rain across the region for the remainder of Thursday, and the chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe.
