The region is well represented on the finalists list for Tennis NSW's annual awards.
Long-time Gunnedah coach Dale Martin is a finalist in the Coaching Excellence - Performance category, while Armidale Tennis Club member Maurie Stephen is up for the Most Outstanding 30+ Senior player award.
Armidale's Sandon Public School is meanwhile one of four finalists for the Most Outstanding School.
They are up against Hilltop Road Public School, Saint Mary's Catholic College (Northern Beaches) and The McDonald College.
Martin and Stephen are both one of two finalists.
"It was a bit of a surprise," Martin said of finding out he was a finalist.
"But very honoured."
The first time he has been a finalist for the award he said it is a nice acknowledgement for all of the hard work.
"You do do a lot of work," he said. "You're down there (the courts) six days a week and go away with a lot of the more elite players to tournaments."
The awards will be held virtually on Thursday night.
