FRAGMENTS of COVID-19 have been detected in Tamworth's sewage catchment for the third time in a week, while sewage testing in Gunnedah has detected the virus for the first time.

There are no known cases of the virus in either communities, so authorities are urging locals with any symptoms to come forward for testing.
"This points to an infectious person being in those communities or having recently visited," Hunter New England Health said in a statement on Wednesday morning.
NSW's sewage surveillance program also detected traces of the virus in Tamworth on Tuesday and Thursday last week. Additional testing will be undertaken on Wednesday.
It follows news that fragments were found in the sewage at Moree, which also hasn't reported a positive coronavirus case, but a visitor from Parkes who stayed overnight on a rural property in the Moree Plains Shire has left the community on high alert.

Anyone who visited the Puma Service Station in Moree on Tuesday, August 24 from 2.20pm to 2.25pm is considered a casual contact and must get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.
As local communities ramp up plans to boost vaccination rates to protect residents, Narrabri Shire Council has announced a walk-in mass vaccination clinic due to surplus of AstraZeneca.
The clinic will take place on Saturday, September 4 at Wee Waa Local Aboriginal Land Council and The Crossing Theatre, Sunday, September 5 and Monday, September 6.
The Royal Flying Doctor service has announced a supply of Pfizer will also be available.
