And a lesson learned over the last year means Nick Kay is determined to focus on the "now".
So, while playing in the NBA was an opportunity he "could never turn down", Kay said, his focus was on preparing for his debut season with the Shimane Susanoo Magic in Japan's B League.

The Tamworth-raised power forward - a key factor in the Boomers' bronze medal triumph at the Tokyo Olympics - said he had "learnt a lot" from his European basketball debut last season, at Spanish club Real Betis, and then at the Olympics.
"You have to live in the moment a lot more than trying to prepare for the next thing," the 29-year-old said.
"And that's what I'm gonna try and do this year: I'll try and make the most out of this season - and whatever happens after that, happens."
The Boomers' Olympic campaign, Kay said, was all about "living in the moment".
