However, they finally broke through last weekend with J'adoube at Moree.
"It was awesome. We've run that many placings where we'd come second by 0.1, 0.2 lengths," Vine said.
The mare came to the stable about a week and a half before the race meeting at Moree.
J'adoube was ready to go and came into the race off the back of a last-start second for previous trainer Kieren Hazelton.
The four-year-old will have his second start for the Vines this week.
With rain seeing a number of meetings around the region called off in the past week due to rain, J'adoube has been nominated at the Tamworth meeting on Monday and Thursday's meet at Moree.
The Tamworth track was rated a Heavy 10 on Sunday with clear skies expected on Monday.
Vine was hopeful racing would go ahead as J'adoube "likes the wet" but said the horse would need to lift.
"It's always hard going from a maiden to a class 1. It's just a whole different ball game," Vine said.
"You're racing against horses who have won a race and have a bit of experience there. It's a big ask and I think she's drawn pretty badly."
J'adoube will jump from the widest barrier in the Rapidclean Class 1 Handicap with Kacie Adams in the saddle.
