The Walkley Foundation has announced the Walkley Awards and Regional Journalism Summit will be held in the city.
The focus of this year's summit will be on the importance of regional media, with a range of industry experts and professionals set to speak.
"At the summit, we will be painting a comprehensive picture of regional media in Australia right now - bringing together voices from the industry, the latest research from across the nation, and case studies from independent and innovative regional news outlets," the foundation's website said.
"The summit will explore the issues facing regional communities and the importance of local journalists in telling regional stories."
Speakers are set to include ABC News Breakfast co-host Lisa Millar, NITV and SBS head of Indigenous news and current affairs Rhanna Collins and investigative journalist at the Newcastle Herald Donna Page.
Local media outlets the Northern Daily Leader (NDL) and ABC will have partnered with the foundation, with The Drum set to broadcast from Tamworth.
