Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) confirmed contractors clocked a record-breaking amount of rubbish in the latest bulky household waste collection, which wrapped up earlier this week after delays.

Waste sustainability officer Angela Dodson told the Leader the amount of rubbish locals ditch is trending upwards.

More than 350 tonnes of waste was crushed up and sent to landfill this time around, which is roughly equivalent to 3,500 average sized fridges.

In comparison, 272 tonnes of rubbish was picked up in the recent November collection.

"It has always increased with every collection," she said. "That's an 80.9 tonne increase of material that all went to landfill."

She said those numbers included Tamworth's trash as well as smaller towns across the region.

Metal waste was picked up separately, and a whopping 190 tonnes of material was collected to be recycled.

Ms Dodson said the collection had been delayed due to the large amount of material people had put out, as well as the wet weather that hit the region during the past two weeks.

She said the rain made things heavier and bulkier to lift, and workers needed to take more time and be extra careful.

She said any items that had been rejected from the collection needed to be disposed of properly by the owner, and information about how to do that should have been left behind.

"There were some issues around inappropriate material like bagged household rubbish," she said.

Anyone who believes their home may have been missed by the truck should contact council on 1300 530 535 before July 5.

"We are reminding people we have cameras on the trucks and we will be checking those reports," she said.

The most recent bulky goods collection was the last of its kind planned for the area, after TRC opted to scrap them and give locals vouchers to dispose of items.
