Cantwell has been attending the Tamworth Baseball June Long Weekend Carnival for 20 years and said it was a good blueprint for other associations to follow.
He said having more tournaments like the Tamworth carnival could increase the popularity of the sport.
"This is good for baseball. All I wish is that we can have tournaments like this in every state. Our game could progress because of it," Cantwell said.
"Just at the moment, we're in a low ebb and we need some talent for our Australian team and the only way you're going to get any good at baseball is to play every day."
Cantwell has seen first hand the improvement in players taking part in carnivals.
Interport bring "two or three young blokes" with them each year on their trip down from Brisbane to help them hone their craft.
"A lot of these blokes [in Interport] have played ABL [Australian Baseball League], a lot have played in America and they're used to playing every day," Cantwell said.
"That's one reason why we bring a couple young blokes - because we want to get them into the habit of playing every day. To be a good baseball player, you have to be able to back up, that's very important."

Something else that is important to Cantwell is having fun - both on and off the field.
"I've got good discipline in the team and a good coaching staff and playing staff but most importantly we're friends and if you're not a sociable person you don't fit in the team," he said.
Cantwell added: "I love the game and in my opinion, in sport money can't buy you friends.
"In sport you can make a lot of friends and I've played a lot of ABL and Claxton Shield and made a lot of friends throughout the whole of Australia. I treasure that very, very much."
