Tamworth Regional Council to start last planned bulky household waste collection from Monday, June 14

The last ever planned bulky household waste collection will kick off on Monday, after Tamworth Regional Council opted to scrap them.

Council's waste sustainability officer Angela Dodson told the Leader the kerb-side collection starting in Tamworth on Monday was expected to be a big one.

It's the last chance for locals to have their bulky waste collected before council introduces a voucher system where people must transport their own trash to the tip.

Ms Dodson also said the timing would play into how big the collection would be this time around.

"We are expecting people will use it because it is straight after the long weekend," she said.

"It's always unpredictable, but history has shown it has steadily been growing and the volumes are large."

The ongoing mouse plague and the damage the critters do could also cause an increase in furniture being dumped for collection.

The first week starts on Monday, June 14, and will service Tamworth, Moonbi, Kootingal and Attunga. The following week will see the collection move to towns like Barraba, Manilla and Nundle.

People need to have their waste out on the kerb the same night they would normally take their bins out.

Ms Dodson warned people only two cubic metres of rubbish - roughly one trailer load - could be picked up from each property and any excess would be left behind.

She urged locals to carefully consider the content of their collection piles, with the majority of it crushed and destined for landfill.

Piles for collection must be less than two metres cubed and items should not weigh more than 30kg each.
