Group 4
The last time North Tamworth were tested like this at home may have been in the 2018 grand final, when they won their fifth straight title with a 34-28 victory over Gunnedah.
But like all top sides, the Bears found a way to win - before kicking away with three late tries in a 34-16 round five defeat of Moree at Jack Woolston Oval on a cold Saturday afternoon.
It was a remarkable 47th consecutive home win for Norths.
Elsewhere, Boggabri edged Werris Creek 22-18 at home and Kootingal-Moonbi downed the Cowboys 30-20 at Dungowan.
