Not only did the zone host a very successful Pony Club NSW State Jumping Equitation Championships on the weekend but the Zone 5 riders produced some excellent results.
"It was a very good weekend for the riders and the zone," Alston said.
She was "very proud" of how the 17 riders performed, their results exceeding her expectations and, she added, probably their own as well.

Kootingal's Rhani Spencer Ruddy (under-11s), Quirindi's Robin Henry (under-13s) and Kootingal's Reese Spencer Ruddy (13-under-15) all jumped their way to champion ribbons in their respective age divisions while Gunnedah's Jessica Swain was the reserve champion to Spencer Ruddy in the under-11s.
Represented by Henry, Reese Spencer Ruddy, Tamworth's Molly Collett and Kootingal's Hayden Ponto, as the four riders with the highest pointscore the zone was also named the champion zone.
Ponto was also the highest point scorer in the under-17s 75cm class.
Around 70 riders from pony clubs across NSW descended on the Kootingal Pony Club's grounds at Moonbi for what was the first stand alone jumping equitation championships. Previously they have been incorporated into the showjumping championships.
Explaining the difference, Alston said equitation is more about style and presentation with riders scored on their presentation and the style in which they go over the jumps. They are also set tasks to complete throughout and after the course, like jumping a fence at an angle or jumping the first obstacle at a trot.
The first state championships the zone has hosted for, Alston calculated, at least five years, the state executive were "very impressed" with how it went.
"They were very impressed with the ground and how efficiently everything ran," she said.
That was thanks in large part to all the volunteers that helped out over the weekend.
"It doesn't run without the volunteers," Alston said.
