The Kootingal and District Pony Club will host the 2021 State Jumping Equitation Championships this weekend thanks to a $5,000 state government grant.

The club was successful in their application to the 2020/21 Local Sport Grant Program, with the funding being used to host the event as well as upgrade the club's show jumping wings and poles.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said it was great to see a state championship competition make its way to Kootingal.
"Show jumping has a rich history in our region and in particular in Kootingal, with the Kootingal and District Pony Club celebrating 50 years back in 2016." Anderson said in a statement.
"It's great to see NSW Government funding do its bit to help bring these great events to our region."
The event will see competitors judged on jumping equitation, meaning the correct way of riding a show jumping course.
Club secretary Justine George said it will be great to host riders from across the state.
She said about 70 riders will be in attendance and compete from under-11 to under-26 at various heights over Saturday and Sunday.
