The association is hosting the Hockey NSW Masters Mens Over 40s and Over 45s State Championships from Friday to Sunday at the Tamworth Hockey Complex.
Tamworth will have four teams take to the field while somewhere in the region of 400 players will compete at the tournament.
One of them being Tamworth Hockey Association president Ross Briggs.
"We're looking at having at least 25 teams from across the state travelling to Tamworth to compete in this," Briggs said.
"Part of the championships is the opportunity to nominate for state selection and to go away to the national championships later on in the year."

This year will be the first time Tamworth has hosted the masters championships "for quite a while" and will showcase the "longevity of the sport".
"Previous years it's been in Sydney and Newcastle, where they've had three fields. We've got the three fields now and we're probably one of the better facilities in regional NSW, if not regional Australia," Briggs said.
"It also shows the longevity of this sport and how long people can play for. In the masters competitions it goes well into the 60s."
The Tamworth Hockey Complex has attracted a number of big events on top of the masters tournament.
The complex hosted the Regional Challenge earlier this year and it's also slated to host the Combined High School Boys Hockey Championships in 2022.
"The old phrase of build it and they will come seems to be working at the moment," Briggs said.
"We've had word we may be getting another tournament next year which we hadn't anticipated so it looks like we're getting set for the future."
Play will begin at 8.30am each day with Tamworth featuring in all three of the opening matches on Friday.
