Police said the child was arrested during patrols at about 2.50am on Monday.
"Police were patrolling South Tamworth as part of Operation Southbreak and found the young male in the company of three others in the street," Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy told the Leader.
"The young person was identified as being wanted by police and he ran from officers.
"A foot pursuit was initiated and the young person was apprehended."
He was arrested in Anne Street and taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged, and later refused bail.
Police will allege he was in possession of a 20cm knife in a bag.
"This arrest is a result of Operation Southbreak led by the Proactive Crime Team who is investigating a recent spike in break-ins," Detective Darcy said.
"At the moment, there is a group of young people who police believe are behind some of these reports.
"We would urge anyone who notices a group of young people out late at night or in the early hours of the morning in the streets to ring police and we will respond."
"We would also appeal for anyone with home CCTV and/or dash cam footage that may have captured suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to contact police."
