Inverell will hold a sign-on day on Saturday ahead of what will be a jam-packed pre-season kicking-off with their own 7s tournament.
The Nutrien Ag 2021 Inverell Rugby 7s will be held on March 6 and 7 and has drawn interest from far and wide.
"We've got 16 men's teams and six women's teams, which is a full subscription," Highlanders president Ross Fuller said.
"And a waiting list for both of those," he added.
"People are absolutely desperate for a bit of football and a social activity which the 7s really goes to."
In what promises to be a good hit-out for the Highlanders, and the other local teams involved, the tournament will feature teams from Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast as well as the Hunter Wildfires and [Western Sydney] Two Blues.
Following the 7s, the Highlanders have a trial against Barraba in Inverell on March 13. They are then scheduled to play Robb College in Armidale on March 20 and the Toowoomba Bears in Toowoomba on March 27.
Saturday's sign-on will be an opportunity for the players, coaching staff, sponsors and supporters to come together for a barbecue and drinks, and a bit of rugby with the Waratahs v Brumbies game being shown on the big screen.
Fuller said things are shaping up pretty well for the season.
"Training has been going extremely well, we've got really strong numbers," he said.
"We're really looking forward to the season."
"We've got a strong Fijian contingent that have come over to work at Bindaree (Food Group), both men and women.
"Apart from being good rugby players they're really good to have around the club."
The Highlanders kick off their campaign against Gunnedah away on April 10.
