AN ELDERY man has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, after he was hurt by a falling tree at a property east of Tamworth.

The 85-year-old man was flown to hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service on Friday afternoon, after an incident near Walcha.

A media statement from the chopper said the 85-year-old man had been chopping down a tree at the property, when it reportedly fell and struck him on the head.
Ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene to treat the man, and the Westpac rescue helicopter was tasked from Tamworth so the critical care team on board could help treat and stabilise the man for transport.
It is understood the man was in a stable condition when he was taken to hospital for further treatment.
