Between 2am and 3am on Saturday two men forced entry to a caravan parked on a Taylor Street property.

Police were told the men demanded cash and bank cards from the occupant, a man aged in his 90s, while assaulting him with a tree branch.

They continued to rummage through the man's belongings, before gaining access to a shed located on the property and leaving the scene on foot.

Emergency services were contacted and the man was treated for minor injuries, before being taken by ambulance to Armidale Hospital for further assessment.

Officers attached to New England Police District are investigating, and are looking to speak with two men who they believe may be able to assist with inquiries.

The first man is described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, around 20 years old, of a medium build, approximately 170cm tall, and was last seen wearing a black balaclava.

The second man has been described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance.

Anyone with information, or may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or local police.
