The midfielder claimed his first best and fairest award at the club's presentation night on Friday in front of runner-up Ben Mitchell.
"Matt's been close before but he's just got pipped. He was a bit edgy but we knew he had it," Roos president Brett Douglas said.

The win comes after Hall won the Sports TG Coaches Award at the AFL North West presentation.
Douglas described Hall as a standout all year and said the accolades were "very well deserved".
"It's just his style of play. He always gives 110 per cent," Douglas said.
"And he's only 21 as well. He seems older than that. He just gives his all every week.
"His general attitude [is great] and he's easy to coach. He's very versatile. No matter where you put him he gives his all."
If there was an award for kilometres clocked heading to matches, he'd have taken that out as well, Douglas said.
"He travelled six hours to a game this year. He was working up near the border,"
"He travelled the most kilometres to a game and got the most votes. He's got so much dedication. You'd love to have his amount of dedication right through a team."
Hall kicked six goals during the shortened 2020 season.
Five of those goals came in round seven against Moree - a game where Hall's coaches judged him their best player.
There was only two games in 2020 where the Roos' coaching staff didn't name him in their top six.
