The numbers might be limited trackside to just a few hundred, but there's no shortage of festivities away from the track to keep punters happy while they cheer home the winner.
Most pubs and clubs are making the most of cup day, marking the occasion with daytime events.

The Tudor Hotel in the Tamworth CBD is offering limited places for a three-course lunch with champagne on arrival, a cup sweep and live music for $55 a ticket.
Meanwhile, The Tamworth Hotel is offering an entrée, main meal, live music and a chance to win a $200 voucher from Runway for the best dressed.
The Post Office Hotel will mark the race that stops a nation from 11.30am with cocktail towers, lunch specials and a free glass of champagne on arrival for ladies.
Joe Maguires Pub won't be missing out on the action with a two-course meal, complimentary glass of sparkling when you walk in the door, fashion prizes and sweeps.
The Pig and Tinderbox will mark the day with a special house, while The Courthouse Hotel's Melbourne Cup day event is booked out, but the public bar and TAB facilities will be open.
Bookings will be essential at The Calala Inn, which will be giving out prizes for the best dressed punters.
Wests Entertainment Group will not be hosting events, but its three venues - Wests, the Courts at East and Diggers will be open throughout the day.
The Pub Group will be going all out at its four venues - The Family Hotel, The Southgate Inn, The Pub and The Longyard.
Attendance will be capped at all venues due to COVID-19 restrictions and all COVID-safe guidelines will be in place.
