BABY twins born at Tamworth hospital on Monday morning have been airlifted to Newcastle for specialist treatment, after the bubs arrived prematurely.

Just before midday on Monday, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter picked up a medical team from John Hunter Hospital and brought them to Tamworth, to help transport the two babies.
The Neo-Natal Intenstive Care Medical Retrieval Team arrived in Tamworth and stabilised one of the twins, before the little one was flown by the chopper back to Newcastle for further treatment.

The second baby was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital by an ambulance helicopter, which was tasked from Sydney.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also sent to a separate incident over the weekend.
About 1:30pm on Saturday, the chopper was called to a motorbike crash on Weabonga Road, about 40 kilometres east of Kootingal.
Ambulance paramedics and the helicopter's critical care team treated the 52-year-old man, who had been riding the motorbike, for a broken ankle and some other minor injuries.
He was taken to hospital by an ambulance in a stable condition.
