While giving no explanation as to the change in plans, an Aldi spokeswoman told the Leader that works will begin in 2021.
"We remain committed to opening a store on our site in Peel Street," she said.

Construction of the store is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2021.
The project will cost around $6.4 million, located at 194 Peel Street, between the PCYC and the petrol station, opposite the skate park.
The development application was approved by Tamworth Regional Council in 2017.

At the same time in 2018, they had an application knocked back by council for a third store on Scott Road due to traffic flow concerns.
It will be the second store the company has in town, with its Centrepoint store opening back in 2012.
