After a count of the votes, Cr Betts was elected as deputy mayor for the 2021 term, winning six votes to three.
There was one nomination for the position of mayor and that was from councillor Col Murray, who was nominated by councillor Jim Maxwell - and with no opposition he was re-elected for the 2021 term with a round of applause from the chamber.
The mayoral position came as little surprise to the councillors, most of which had already expressed they would support Cr Murray in a return to office for the next term.

The vote was conducted by secret ballot, which means there's no telling who voted for who.
