According to Bureau of Meteorology daytime temperatures are set to drop more than four degrees below average by Saturday. With added wind chill conditions will feel outright arctic and could be the coldest of the year.
The Bureau is predicting snow will fall to as low as 1000m, affecting Barrington Tops, Armidale, Guyra and Walcha. Some areas could experience a series of snow showers over 24 to 36 hours from Friday evening.
But Mr Farrenden, of Tamworth and Region Weather, was tipping snow as low as 800m, with the region to get the best snowfall of 2020.
"It'll be widespread snow," he said.
"You'll certainly see plenty of snow in plenty of places over the weekend."
