Tamworth Little Athletics secretary Melissa O'Connell said the results were "outstanding".
"It is certainly one of the best showings we've ever had," Ms O'Connell said.
"To have more than 80 kids represent us and have 27 qualify for the state championships is just amazing.
"We've had kids qualify for all kinds of events including sprint races, distance races, high jump, long jump and all kinds of events.
"One thing that is also a first for us is that we've had kids qualify for race walking as well, which is pretty rare."
Ms O'Connell said Tamworth's state-of-the-art facilities played a major role in the result.
"It's been so good to have these facilities because otherwise, our kids would struggle to get access to a track like this one," she said.
"We had a lot of rain during the regional championships, which would have meant it would have been cancelled if it had been at our old track.
"There's no doubt we would have had to abandon the competition if we didn't have this new track, so it has been great for us for a number of reasons."
The athletes will now shift their focus to the state championships at Sydney Olympic Park this weekend.
"A lot of our kids will try and squeeze a few more training sessions in before they take off," Ms O'Connell said.
"They've been training really hard and we are just so proud of all of them for making it this far.
"Regardless of how they all go at the state championships, we are all very proud of them - that's for sure."
