Heavy rainfall over the past few days in the Swamp Oak Creek area brought an influx of water gushing into the Cockburn River near Limbri, which joins up with the Peel River.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) measuring station at Weabonga recorded 21.8mm yesterday.
The flow will also bypass Keepit Dam.
Dams around the region have had some inflows this year with Chaffey Dam sitting at 14.3 per cent, Keepit at 11.4 per cent and Split Rock at four per cent.
The BoM is predicting a wet end to the week for Tamworth.
There has been a bit of rain on Thursday already and there is an 80 per cent chance of showers on Friday.
