The project will not only extend water supply to Tamworth, Kootingal and Moonbi but will also eliminate significant water losses which occur along the Peel River arising from evaporation and water loss to the aquifer.
WaterNSW and contractor MPC Kinetic have completed 58 per cent of the new pipeline from Chaffey Dam to Dungowan village, with more than 30 percent of the workface consisting of local workers.

Thirty local businesses have also been engaged on the project.
To know more about the final stages of the project, WaterNSW has invited interested parties to register for the final round of project information sessions to be held on the following dates:
Wednesday, March 11 - Dungowan
Session 1: Dungowan Village/Recreation Grounds from 4pm-5.30pm (Duri-Dungowan Road, Dungowan)
Session 2: Dungowan Hotel from 7pm-8.30pm (1572 Dungowan Rd, Dungowan)
Thursday, March 12 - Tamworth
Session 3: The Services Club from 7pm- 8.30pm (199 Marius Street, Tamworth)
The information sessions will present details on:
- the latest construction program, expected completion date and remaining works
- how the permanent pipeline will operate when construction is completed and when the temporary weir on the Peel River will be removed
- the latest drought outlook and keeping informed
