In a high-scoring affair at South and West War Memorial Pool, the premiers defeated the Tigers 13-9.
Their grand final combatants Southgate also started the season with a win beating the Thunder 8-2.
After being played on Friday nights in recent seasons, to accommodate for only the one pool being in operation, the men's and women's competitions have shifted to Sunday mornings following Flippaball and the under-12s (previously deep end flippaball).

Sunday's second round action will see a grand final reply with Southgate and Eco matching up after the Thunder face the Tigers.
Preceding that the first round of the women's competition will be played.
The Sapphires and Composite B team will be the first to hit the water at 10am followed by the under-16s rep side and the Composite A.
