The 15-year-old boy appeared in Armidale Children's Court for sentencing, after admitting to one count of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
The teenage boy was armed with a knife when he entered the BP service station, on the corner of Marsh and Dumaresq Streets in Armidale, on July 23.
The juvenile was given a 25 per cent discount for his plea, which was at the earliest opportunity.

In sentencing, magistrate Michael Holmes ordered the boy to be detained in juvenile detention for 18 months. He will have to serve a minimum of six months before he is eligible for parole.
After time served, he will be eligible for release in January 2020.
The boy stormed the Armidale service station about 2pm on the day of the robbery. Once inside, he confronted the attendant and threatened him, demanding cash.
Anti-counter-jumping security wiring prevented the teenager from getting any closer to the employee, who retreated to a secure area, police said at the time.
The teenager then stole lollies and drinks and fled the scene.
The boy has been in custody since his arrest less than 24 hours after the robbery.
Angus Morris is accused of being an accessory to the hold-up before it happened, and was arrested on July 24 in Barney Street.
Detectives allege Morris knew the robbery was going to occur and aided the teenager before the offence.
Morris, 23, has not been required to enter pleas to the accessory to robbery offence. He remains bail refused to return to court in October.
Witness statements and security surveillance footage connect him to the robbery, detectives claim.
