ONE of Gunnedah's fastest-rising junior stars has shone at the NSW PSSA athletics trials at Olympic Park recently.
Gunnedah's Hayden Sawyer thrilled the Homebush crowd during the under-10 boys high jump event.
The Gunnedah South Public School year five student out performed his competition qualifying for the national PSSA athletics championships in September.
Sawyer's coach Maryanne Perkins said the 10-year-old had overcome several obstacles on his way to the state-wide competition.
"Hayden suffered a strained MCL injury playing soccer in the lead up to the event," Perkins told the Leader.
"However, despite the interrupted preparation, Hayden did enough on the day to qualify for nationals."
The stellar performance now means Sawyer will represent NSW in the under-10 boys high jump at the national PSSA athletics championships in Darwin from September 18 to 23.
