Thunderbolts coach John Ireland has praised Quayshun Hawkins' contribution to the team, after the American import's game-high 32 points in a 54-point away win over Port Macquarie on Sunday.

The final score was 111 to 57.
Ireland said Hawkins' performance in steering first-placed Tamworth to their 14th win of the season (against one loss) was enhanced by his typically strong defensive work.
"The good thing about Quay is he plays both ends of the floor," Ireland said, adding that the point guard also had "four or five" steals and "six and seven" assists against the Dolphins.

"So he's very unselfish," Ireland said. "He creates for the other guys just as much as he scores for himself. So he's a really positive impact on our team across both ends of the floor."
The win against ninth-placed Port Macquarie sets Tamworth up for a challenging three matches to conclude the regular season: St George (away), Newcastle (home) and Central Coast (away).
It was a stretch that could make or break the Thunderbolts' season, Ireland said.
