CREWS are hoping to have the East Tamworth blackout resolved by midday.
Essential Energy claims today's outage wasn't related to a previous incident which a similar outage in June.
"After sensing a fault, the electricity network automatically switched power off to 1,669 homes and businesses in the wider east Tamworth area at 8.52am to ensure the safety of the public and their property," a spokesperson for Essential Energy said.
"Crews responded immediately and have started to progressively restore power for customers by rerouting the electricity network around the fault."
The fault appears to be with the connection between two powerlines, the energy company said.
The spokesperson said repair work associated with the previous blackout was completed on June 16.

EAST Tamworth has had its power cut for the second time less than a month.
At about 9am, Essential Energy reported 1669 homes and businesses had been affected by the blackout.
Crews have been working to fix the outage, but at 9.45am the outage was still listed on Essential Energy's website.

The outage spanned form North Street down the Armidale Road to the driver reviver station and extended up to the Oxley lookout and up Daruka Road.
There was an outage covering a similar area in East Tamworth on June 11.
It caused "significant damage to a padmount transformer, underground cable and other electricity network equipment".
"The repair work will be extensive and will require the replacement of the padmount transformer and a section of underground cable," Essential Energy community relations northern manager David Crough said said.
