What do you do for a living?
I own a solar energy company which has operated for more than 20 years. I also run a small cattle and cropping property.
How long have you lived in the New England electorate?
All of my life.
What is the best part of living in the New England electorate?
The climate is first class and the opportunities to prosper are even better. For families the educational availabilities are more than you could wish for. Armidale has recently had extensive upgrades to the medical services with the local hospital benefiting from a major update. The Armidale airport has also recently been upgraded with many opportunities to utilise this improved means of transport for the population and for commercial businesses.
Why are you running for the federal seat of New England?
During the current drought the farming community is suffering from a lack of support. Water conservation is a huge problem. Armidale is now under Stage 3 water restrictions for the first time in decades. From a national viewpoint, forward planning to attempt to drought proof the continent is not beyond the capabilities of the Federal Government. Yet nothing appears to have been attempted. The New England is suffering and with no real plans to tackle the horrors of climate change currently being addressed by the Federal Government, it looks like a very dry future.
Why are you qualified to be the elected member for New England?
I was born, educated, trained, married and raised my children in this region. I have been employed and set up my own businesses here in New England. I have a lifetime of experience. Work hard and life will be good. Along the way I have given freely my time to help others. I have volunteered for over 30 years for Jobs Australia, 20 years with Legacy Armidale and many other groups as a volunteer. I have listened to business people, farmers and community leaders and I have learned from their experiences too. I have a wealth of life experience.
In your opinion, what are the most pressing issues facing the New England electorate?
Water, as discussed earlier. Development creating jobs into the future. Youth unemployment is a major problem right across the electorate. In tough times, assistance is needed in a timely and easy to access way. A Farmers Bank, administered by the government with a charter to assist farmers first and foremost - not shareholders. Climate has become a "catch phrase" and a turn off. But sustainability and change must happen. Doing nothing is creating a worldwide disaster just waiting to happen.
Let's get back to democracy. Elected politicians who demonstrably work for the good of Australia - not themselves. Let's all put Australia first.
What is your message to the voters?
