THE state government has been rolling out new and tougher measures on irrigators and locals are calling for water users to get informed.
The Peel Valley Water Users will host a meeting for all irrigators on Tuesday, April 23 to provide "more detail about the new requirements and the roll out dates" for the government's new metering requirements.
"Over the next two years, most licensed water users in the Peel Valley who take groundwater or surface water will need to install water meters that comply with new metering requirements," the group's notice said.
The next stage commences on December 1, 2019, when all surface water pumps 500mm and above will need to have a meter that meets the new standards.
A number of new metering requirements commenced on April 1, 2019.
Staff from the department of water and the Natural Resources Access Regulator will be at the meeting to provide information to irrigators from the region.
The meeting starts at 6pm, Tuesday, April 23 at the Tamworth Community Centre on Darling Street.
